In this member-exclusive deep dive, senior curator Silvia Barisione will take us on a journey through the changing landscape of South Florida in the 1920s and 1930s, when architects and developers borrowed a Mediterranean vocabulary for Florida’s building boom. Highlighting Wolfsonian collection architectural drawings, postcards, books, and brochures, the talk will include such iconic Mediterranean Revival and Art Deco buildings as Roney Plaza Hotel, Miami Beach City Hall, Essex House, Kent Hotel, and the Florida Tropical House at the 1933 Chicago World's Fair.
