In the early years of commercial aviation, airlines needed to convince the public that flying was safe, even glamorous. What better way to promote that idea than a Hollywood musical—produced by one of Pan American Airways' founding board members—featuring Ginger Rogers, an airborne romance, and a spectacular dance sequence on the wings of planes. Get a look at the broader visual culture around aviation with a 4pm curator-led tour of the Wolfsonian exhibition Aerial Vision before heading across Washington Avenue to catch a 5pm screening of Flying Down to Rio at O Cinema.

Presented in partnership with O Cinema South Beach.

$11; $7.50* for Wolfsonian members
*Optional tour of Aerial Vision at The Wolf is included in the film admission price.
