Miami Beach Deco Development

Focusing on Miami Beach’s entertainment venues at the height of the Art Deco decade, Miami Beach Deco Development revealed the evolution of the city’s nightlife in the 1930s and emergence as a tourist destination affordable to the middle class. Postcards, brochures, and other ephemera highlighted the new, smaller-scale hotels and clubs—many of which still stand today—built up during the redevelopment “boom” that followed the 1926 Miami hurricane “bust.”

Miami Beach Deco Development was the second of three successive installations developed by The Wolfsonian Library to celebrate the centennial of the City of Miami Beach.
